With the increasing incidents of aggression and violence towards Asian Americans during this COVID-19 crisis and shutdown, we encourage anyone who has experienced hateful speech or a hate crime to report incidents to Asian Pacific Policy and Planning Council’s #StopAAPIHate page and/or law enforcement. It’s important to track these incidents so data can be presented to show patterns and so law enforcement can deploy the necessary resources to curb any violence.

For hate crimes, report to your local law enforcement and FBI.
A hate crime is a traditional offense like murder, arson, or vandalism with an added element of bias. For the purposes of collecting statistics, the FBI has defined a hate crime as a “criminal offense against a person or property motivated in whole or in part by an offender’s bias against a race, religion, disability, sexual orientation, ethnicity, gender, or gender identity.” Hate itself is not a crime—and the FBI is mindful of protecting freedom of speech and other civil liberties.
